Sometimes ministry looks like dancing with kids for hours, or leading a woman’s group Bible study. Sometimes it looks like packing boxes for a couple hours. Other times our ministry is scrubbing walls, sweeping floors, washing dishes, or baking in the kitchen.

Sometimes ministry looks like sitting with people & hearing their stories. Sometimes it looks like translating Spanish, giving a smile and a hug, or praying over a teammate. Some mornings, ministry means helping in the kitchen at 6:30am chopping veggies.

These are only some of the ways we’ve been blessed to serve at Ciudad Refugio. Some days I wake up and can’t wait to get going! Other days, I wake up so exhausted mentally and physically and I just want to go back to bed. Ministry isn’t always easy, but when my flesh wants to just lay down and sleep for 3 days, or when all I desire is a hot shower, that’s where grace comes in. When I come to the end of myself, I’m tired and the day feels long, I have a choice to bring it to God or rely on my own strength. When I take it to the Lord, it opens an opportunity to be filled by Him! And He doesn’t just give me little drops of His love & strength. He fills me to overflowing!! That’s a grace I don’t deserve! So when I pour out that day, it won’t be me that people see, but Him. Every day I have a choice to operate out of my own strength, or allow the Lord to fill me & use me.

Psalm 28:7 !!! “The Lord is my strength and my shield; in Him my heart trusts and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.”

  1. This is so beautiful Aly. What a humbling, and God guided experience. I’m so proud of you, and your choices to help others. Love you! Stay safe in Columbia.. May God always guide and blessed you!

  2. Ahh, grace…His grace that goes beyond our comprehension. What a beautiful picture you’ve painted of what it looks like to rely on His strength. Yes, it’s a choice to not do it on our own. Thank you for sharing! Praying for you each and all! Love, Rachel (Jessa’s mom)

  3. This is incredible! I’m in awe of how you all have willingly and joyfully stepped into everything the Lord has for you!
